About Miss Honey

I am Suzanne, a 47-year-old mother of two, a business journalist – and an advocate of natural, yet gorgeous and effective skincare products that don’t cost the earth.

It was when looking for bath and skincare products for my children that I became increasingly frustrated at how difficult it is to find natural formulations.

I’ve known for many years that sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) was an ingredient I didn’t want to put on my skin if I could help it . But once I had children, I became outraged that it was virtually impossible to buy products that didn’t contain it. I had fears about other ingredients too.

The Miss Honey brand is born from my desire to find natural skincare creams that don’t contain skin-unfriendly ingredients, but which are incredibly indulgent and pampering.

I am an enthusiast too for the benefits of honey and beeswax, natural beauty products that go back as far as Cleopatra and have been used to ward off wrinkles and rejuvenate, moisturise and heal skin for generations.

My products also reflect my interest in championing the plight of the honeybee, whose populations have been dying out and yet whose pollination is responsible for a third of the global food economy.

Why beeswax and honey are so good for your skin

Beeswax and honey are great natural, anti-aging skincare products. Throughout the centuries, renowned beauties such as Cleopatra and Poppea, wife of the Roman Emperor Nero, have used raw honey and beeswax as part of their skin and hair care routines to keep them looking youthful.

A natural healing agent, honey can act as a mild antiseptic and also contains antioxidants and flavenoids that may function as antibacterial agents.

Honey is a great natural moisturiser for dry and parched skin too. It’s a humectant, which means it is able to attract and retain moisture, and rebuild the moisture level in the skin without making it oily.

Not only that, honey provides a calming effect and it’s an anti-irritant, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Yep, it’s even good enough for a baby’s skin.

Beeswax works particularly well in cosmetic products because of the “wax esthers” that exist in both beeswax and human skin.

It’s a natural, hydrating ingredient that increases and retains essential moisture in skin, and can bring relief from itching in sensitive skin.

Beeswax has an irritation potential of zero. That means that, when used correctly in cosmetic formulations, beeswax won’t cause a problem or clog the pores. It is good for general skin healing and softening, and as an antiseptic.
